The Complete Chronicles of Narnia (text only) by C. S. Lewis,P. Baynes I bought this copy because for one, I personally did not want a "movie tie-in" version, I wanted to have a hardcover edition that contained all of the books in one that I could keep for years and pass down to my children - in short, good quality, tasteful, with pictures.It was described as being "Used - Good", but it arrived in excellent condition (no noticeable tears on the book itself with only slight page wear). This version came with a book jacket which is identical to the hard cover itself, so I threw away the jacket which was well worn. Also, the book description says "text only", which is strange, because this copy has tons of the original illustrations in full-color (I'll try to post pictures soon).
I feel like I hit the jackpot with this purchase and I highly encourage everyone to get this copy ASAP, because I've noticed the price of the "all-in-one" books skyrocketing lately (Barnes and Noble used to have a "leather"-bound copy for $20 three years ago which is $100 now). I sure hope these books don't go out of print, but if they do, you'll be glad you purchased this particular version, because it'll be passed down the family.

Beware of the difference between the hardcover and softcover of this edition the hardcover is a single volume, and the softcover is a boxed set!
But, with that out of the way, these books are some of the most delightful and thought-provoking stories you will ever encounter. I fell in love with them as a child, and still consider them among my favorite works of fiction—now I get to introduce a new generation of young readers to them, who I hope will enjoy them as much as I did at their age! C.S. Lewis is truly a master storyteller who incorporates important observations of human nature and lessons of morality and faith into a world of magic and endless possibilities.
It took me longer than expected to read this slim book. I would frequently re-read sections. "If God is good and all-powerful, then why does he allow his creatures to suffer pain?" Lewis's answer to this delicate question is thought provoking, insightful, complex, deep , and intellectual. It is hard to wrap my head around both the question and the answer. In all honesty, I had a difficult time accepting pain for animals who according to Lewis are sentient but not conscious/self aware. I do not agree with his conclusion but I respect his brilliant and exceptional thought process and writing. This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to delve into this seemingly paradoxical question. You may support his explanation or disagree with his beliefs but you will be challenged to think deeply about this profound question.
Love these books, but the font size is much too small on the Narnia Box Set (with movie pictures on box, linked below). It is advertised as for Grade 3 and up, but likely only Jr. High and older would be comfortable with this small of a Font Size. We are surprised that Harper Collins would publish such a small text Font Size, knowing that many children would be their audience.
***It would be very helpful if would include the Font Size in the product description for books and other literature.*** (Surprised that they don't already include this.)
Chronicles of Narnia Box Set
We are sending this box set back regrettably, and instead ordering this 2000-published box set, which is a couple inches taller, hoping it has an adequate font size for young readers (link below). It costs $8 more, but should hopefully be the solution we need for the too-small font.
The Chronicles of Narnia Box Set Full-Color Collector's Edition
It is no secret that C.S. Lewis is an incredible writer and story teller. Unlike his popular series The Chronicles of Narnia this book is nonfiction; however, it is still written in the dreamy, thought-provoking way that The Chronicles of Narnia are. Lewis has a way of taking common questions and concerns that everyone is struggling with and offer a type of explanation for them. While it was a required textbook reading for a college course that I took, I am genuinely glad that I was introduced to the book and I would absolutely recommend reading it even if it is not necessary for a class that you are taking. If you struggle with the existence of pain in a world with an all-loving God, this book is definitely for you. As with every sermon or reading that discusses theology, it is very important that you take C.S. Lewis's words and see how they line up with The Bible and your own convictions given to you by The Lord. However, I truly believe that you will find greater peace after reading this book. This book causes you to think and may challenge some existing beliefs that you have. Ultimately, it will cause you to grow as a person. I was also very happy with the seller of this book. The book arrived in perfect condition and did not have any marks on the inside or tears anywhere on the book. It was shipped the day that I ordered it and arrived the day that it said it would. If you are looking for a challenging book and want to dive deeper into the question of the existence of pain, I recommend getting your hands on this book!
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. The problem of pain is of course the subject of focus, but the book is nearly comprehensive as an explanation of the Christian worldview. Lewis is a clear thinker and writer. The last chapter on animal pain was astonishing and presents theories I'd never before considered. I've given this book as a gift twice since reading it in 2014.
This is a beautiful paperback box set of the Narnia collection, that so many of us grew up with. The covers are nice, thick and protective of the pages inside, which are of good paper stock. I have no print fading or errors that I've noticed.
The art on the outter box is beautiful on all sides, with a little read up at the top. For paperbacks, I believe this is the way to go! Highly recommended!
